Flat or Dead-Flat Oil - Provides a completely flat, oil-based finish. Generally used on walls but not suitable for areas of high wear.
Before you start painting, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the weather for rain or snow. You don't want to start painting only to stop abruptly because of the weather.
What are the major color fields in the painting and their role in the entire composition? Is the light optically realistic or expressive as in Matisse's painting?
Remember this simple rule when thinking about Warm or Cool: Warm individuals have red or gold highlights in their hair. Cool individuals have no red or gold highlights in their hair. That is true for girls and women of all ages. Whether you color your hair, use the color you have now as the basis to determine whether you are Warm or Cool. Congratulations! You are half way towards determining your Season.
When you plan with split complementary colors, you begin with a single reference color. Next, choose a color from either edge of the complementary color and use it. While the complementary color scheme is a little more obvious, this scheme can fail totally if you just use paler versions of your warm colors. By the same token, picking a a warm undertone for the main contrasting color and combining it with two cool tones will showcase the warm tone.
There are two bases of paint for your house: solvent-based (oil or alkyd) and water-based (latex). Oil-based paints dry slow - usually taking up to 24 hours. The best clean up for an oil-based paint is turpentine or paint thinner. Latex paints' advantage is that it dries relatively fast, but it is not desirable in hot weather or direct sunshine. The best clean up for latex paints requires just soap and water. So if you are painting the inside of your house, it is recommended to use water-based paints, while solvent-based paints are suggested for painting the exterior of your house.
For stippling you need a special brush; get one that is flat, and has short, stiff bristles.
