Masonry Walls and Ceilings. Interior masonry walls and ceilings above grade may, in general, be painted in much the same manner as plaster surfaces. Here again, it is necessary to allow adequate time for the masonry to dry before applying paint and, in addition, attention should be given to the preparation of the surface. When decorating a wall containing Portland cement (concrete, for example), it is essential to take precautions against the attack of alkali. For this purpose, alkali-resistant primers such as rubber-base paints may be used when oil paints are to follow.

Sensory Integration: Children who have an opportunity to play with diverse media and in different sensory settings are better able to develop their sensory systems. Allowing a child to spend time in the sensory environments he finds most comfortable, gives him the inner strength to cope with those he finds more challenging and then gradually build his sensory system to be able to cope with them.

One precaution: You can't paint with it in cold weather. The chemical reaction that transforms the water solution into a durable finish will not take place if the temperature is below 50°. (Conventional oil paints don't stick well in cold weather, either.)

Always use a sanding block for flat surfaces. Just your hand behind a thin piece of sand paper can leave grooves and low spots. It's also easier on your hands. For inside curves try wrapping the sand paper around a short section of garden or heater hose. This will help approximate the concave curve and help stay away from sanding through hard edges. On hard edges, like the top ridge of a fender or leading edge of a hood, you need to do this by hand. A sanding block will quickly dig right through the paint on a hard edge and take you down to bare metal. This means primer and more sanding.

Start with a thorough cleaning with a good degreaser. This isn't typically something you're going to find at the local chain parts store. Find an automotive paint supplier near you and spring the extra cash for the good stuff. Remember, this is the foundation you're laying for the new paint and the better you do, the better it will look. After degreasing start scuffing with 240-360 grit wet sand paper. Dry sanding using grit this fine will clog the sand paper in short order and frustrate you to no end. Use a bucket and sponge or a spray bottle to keep the area wet while sanding.

Building a monochromatic theme simply uses a single color in graduating shades like cream, beige and brown. It is hard to go wrong with this palette, so everyone can use it successfully. But unless variations of the one color used are handled with flair, this can be an unexciting look.
